This is my small collection of hand painted china by Anna Peters. I have tried to find out something about the talented Ms. Peters, but keep coming to a dead end. Does anyone out there in blog land know anything about her?
She is a master at painting realistic roses.
The large blue handled plate with the pale roses belonged to my mother, and I know she had it in the 1940-1950s.
Three of the scalloped plates I purchased in an antique store in the 1970s. The rest of the pieces I have acquired over the years. They are all signed either with "Anna Peters" or just "Peters".
I would love to know more about this talented china painter!!!!

As you can tell, it never occurred to me to do a Halloween post. I'm just not into Halloween, I guess; as I haven't even bought the candy yet. I better get to Wal-mart. My little goblins will be here in a few hours wondering what Grammy has for them!!! Happy Halloween to all of you, my blogging goblins!!!

Carrie of Oak Rise Cottage was able to find some information on Ms. Anna R. Peters, the talented china painter of my dishes. Ms. Peters had a china painting studio in Denver, Colorado from 1905 - 1907. RubyLane.com has a couple of her plates for sale - one of the smaller size of Colorado's state flower, the columbine, for $60 and a larger plate of roses similar to mine for $100. WOW! I had no idea my plates could be this old or this expensive. Mine were purchased at bargain prices! I'll certainly be on the lookout for more, now. Thanks, Carrie, for searching out this information for me.

These are beautiful plates. I have a couple with hand-painted roses, so I went to look at the bottom, and they say hand-painted, but no artist's name. You have such a pretty collection of them. Hope someone will stop by who knows something about the artist. laurie

I about fainted when I saw these dishes..they are "goreous".. in fact I have one that my Aunt painted many years ago that is so close is almost spooky... ReplyDeleteJ's brother gave us a plate, for our wedding, painted by an artist in our area. There was a china painters society, in the next county, in those days. Not sure if it's still around. I cherish that plate.

wow! how fortunate for me...I went to an estate sale today in Westerville Ohio and purchased 5 beautiful hand painted 'rose' porcelin button/ studs by 'Mrs Anna R Peters for 'Cohn Bros.' total buttons (3 big, 2 small). Tried to research...dead end...will try to figure out how to send picture from my phone!!! Beautiful paintings!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sally~ I am looking for info about my great aunt, Lillian Corinne Ripley Mohr, who had a china painting studio in Denver in 1907. She is listed in the City Directory as having a china painting studio at 76 Barth Blk. r 1236 Acoma, whatever that means! She apparently died soon after, and I'm trying to find out where she died...I would love to find some of her beautiful painted china which my mother loved. ReplyDeleteI just found 3 plates at a thrift store. 2 are smaller dessert size and the 3rd a luncheon size. Dark pink roses on a pale green background. The larger plate has its original tag on the back. It reads: "Painted by Mrs. Anna R. Peters for Ben Cohn & Bro. 412 Harrison Ave. Leadville, Colo. Warranted Strictly all Hand Painted China Decorated to Order." Each plate is signed "Peters". In total I paid $9 for all 3!
