For my vintage vignette this week, I wanted to show you the Christmas village with the bottlebrush trees that was always on my Grandmother's mantel at Christmas time.
She always had this little round mirror to simulate a pond for the deer to have a drink. At a young age I was concerned that the deer were much too large for the houses. I was told that they were in front; and things close to you always appear larger. Thus, my first lesson in perspective!!!
Each building as a hole in the back to put a light through. Some of the bottlebrush trees have had a bit too much loving over the years. Grandma always let me play with the village and move things around. I've set this scene up on a low chest, so that my grandchildren have access to it, also.
See the Christmas decorations in the tiny windows.
The deer are made of celluloid.
Lots of fluffy snow this year.
Sally

ReplyDeleteHi Sally. Oh, how sweet this little village is, even with the monstrous sized deer. Just hope no deer hunters are around! lol

Isn't it fun to decorate for Christmas?
ReplyDeleteHi Sally...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to have you stop by today...yes, we did get some snow but I emphasize "SOME"...us Coloradoans call it a skiff of snow! Hehe!!! How about you?
I just love your little Christmas Village...what a treasure and Christmas memory from your Grandma!!! I giggled when you talked about the size of deer and "perspective"...so true...so true!!!
I sure wish you the best on your upcoming tests!
Warmest wishes...Chari (Happytodesign)

Wonderful memories of those little houses that we used to have also...along with the white deer..not my grandmother's but the folks always had the little town set up....I hope you do try the candy...it really is simple to make. Let me know if you do make it and how it comes....Sue.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE the little village! It is just charming and so nice that it is your childhood memory too! Those collections probably have good monetary value now, but the "memory" value is worth so much more. laurie

ReplyDeleteHi Sally...
ReplyDeleteIt's always such a pleasure to have you stop by! I felt exactly as you did about the Grand Louvre...I wondered why in the heck they stuck that modern looking glass pyramid there...I'm still not sure that I really like it! Another example of strange architecture in Paris...I noticed that while we were looking out the Eiffel...the city of Paris was so beautiful...it appeared uniformly white...and then, like a sore thumb...a big old black skyscraper towered way above the rest of Paris...hmmm...it nearly ruined it for me...hehe!!!
But I loved Paris!!!
