IN A QUANDARY ---

I crave change -- After all of these years of collecting and changing out stuff, I still want something different to look at in our home.
The problem is that I really do like the things that we have inherited and accumulated over our 56 years of marriage, and hate to pack anything away.

I love my great-grandfather's lamp sitting on a textile I purchased on Portebello Road in London.
Everyone knows I'm crazy over brown transferware, and love looking at it every day.
I'm sold on wool, handwork, plaid, and texture.
And, I can't live without color plus wood that has lived a previous life.
So, I guess I don't really want change -- just would love to add a HUGE addition to the house so that I could look every day at MORE of the stuff I love.

In the meantime, I guess the least I could do is put the Valentines away for another year. And pull out part of another collection that hasn't seen the light of day for awhile --- antique silver.
A sugar bowl with a birdie on top with slots to hold teaspoons.
A spooner with a collection of sugar spoons.
A covered butter dish with a butter-knife holder.
And, a beautiful little creamer.
I remember now why they were hidden away --- they really need polished!!!  A project for another day.
At least, tarnish is something different to look at for awhile.

  4. I'm so glad that you are not parting with the things you love Sally! They are all what makes you, you!! Your Valentine display is darling and what a gorgeous collection of silver. I actually love it tarnished. I have next to nothing when it comes to silver, but I sure think it's pretty. I am trying to not start any new collections, but I found an entire box of white ironstone yesterday that I just had to have. Oh well, there I go again. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  5. HI Sally! OH, I always love seeing your wonderful treasures! That lamp is amazing! I love your brown transferware and the silver. Stay safe and warm if you get that snow. We are covered up in it and it's just so pretty! It amazes me how the sunshine will shine so brightly on the snow but it doesn't melt it. I guess that won't happen until the temps get above freezing! ;)
    Be a sweetie,

  8. I like seeing your collections. A home layered with things added over time is one with soul. Thanks for sharing! I think your tarnished silver looks just fine. You have some gorgeous pieces. The vintage valentines look similar to some that were shown at my recent antique club meeting.

  10. I'm always thinking how lovely it would be to have a sprawling house with oodles of room for all the things I love. But I'm sure I would just fill that one up too! I love a lot of the same things you do, but your wool projects are wonderful! I'm not liking this latest cold snap, but at least you got some snow out of it! Just a few flurries for us.
