TARTAN DAY

I couldn't let Tartan Day pass without a post.  My addiction to plaid has been well documented!

Before surgery a couple of weeks ago, I was working on a new, small quilt from my plaid and wool fabric stash.  My main source of plaid wool has long been the thrift stores.  Back in 2014, I ran across this tartan skirt, and I couldn't pass it up for just $6.00.

The label said it was from Scotland! I deconstructed the garment; then felted it by washing it in hot water, then finished the process in a hot dryer.  This makes the fabric soft and keeps it from fraying -- perfect for appliqueing.

 Here is the project using the plaid for the applique background.

 Now, that I'm on the road to recovery from surgery, I hope to finish it up soon.

NATIONAL TARTAN DAY

April 6th has been designated as National Tartan Day ----

and, I do love some plaid!

Our son was home over Easter, and this is what he brought me.

My very own Lego bagpiper in his plaid kilt.

Both our son and grandson are Lego aficionados, and both have their own bagpiper mini-figs.  I've tried to talk them out of theirs, but they wouldn't cooperate.

Now, I have my very own just in time to celebrate National Tartan Day.

NATIONAL TARTAN DAY

National Tartan Day on April 6th has been designated as a day to celebrate Scottish heritage.  I don't think I have a bit of Scottish ancestry in me, but I do love tartan/plaid.  

 I'm always on the lookout for wool, plaid clothing in thrift stores that I can deconstruct, wash, and make into something else.  You would be surprised at the number of pieces of Pendleton, Ralph Lauren, etc. clothing that I have found for just a couple of dollars.

 Pillows are my favorite thing to make from my found plaids --- 

I've even been known to save scraps of plaid paper to make Christmas cards.





I think I will go celebrate by making something plaid.
