BARBECUED DRAWER PULLS

Have you heard about cleaning brass hardware with ketchup? We thought we would give it a try. Here are some drawer pulls in their before state.

We put them in the pan with some ketchup, brought them to a boil, and simmered for about 15 minutes.

We then rinsed them off, went over them with a toothbrush, and polished with a soft cloth. The top three had the BBQ treatment, and the one on the bottom row was polished with Brasso.

What do you think? The bad part is that my kitchen now smells like barbecued meat, but there is nothing in there for dinner!!!!

    Oooh...I bet that smell is so good...you will just have to run out for some bar b que tonight! : )

    Girl, when I seen this post pop up on my new posts lists...I have to admit...I wondered if you had lost your marbles!!! hehehehe!!! Sorry, I just got the biggest kick out of your title! But...laughing aside...that ketchup really worked! It did a much better job than the brasso...I just can't believe it! Thank you so much for sharing this nifty little trick! Hmmm...wonder how you clean em' up if there still on the dresser??? Hehehe!!! Ohhh, I'm just being silly!

    Also, I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed your Vintage Thingies post! Love all of that beautiful collection of damask linen towels, tablecloths, and napkins! I really do like the pretty red morning glory border!!!

    Well my friend, it's been raining here alllll day long! No joke! It's supposed to rain all night and tomorrow as well! We have small ponds starting to form in the yard...I just know that the grass will really green up after all this nice moisture! I really don't think we'll see any snow...but then you never know about Colorado in the Spring! Hehe!

Now this is a new one for this old gal..but I guess its the acid in the tomatoe that does it..and girl I hate Brasso it takes forever and still doesn't do a good job..Thanks for the infro on this...Now I would love to just use the ketscup so Len thinks I am cooking dinner ha ha!! hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

  8. What an interesting idea!! And the proof IS in the Ketchup. I'm gonna try this as soon as I can get this huge old hutch up the stairs and outdoors for stripping.

    I've been dreaming of having the knotty-pine old thing dressed in a lovely cream coat for ages, and now I can make the brass lovely, as well.

  10. Sally- Love what you did with the old disc spacers!! I am now thinking about all that stuff we threw out when we closed down our farm equipment -auto parts store!!!

    Got home this Tuesday just in time to find out we had company coming for this weekend. Don't know when I will ever get caught up on my blogging!!

    I love the pretty blue glass you son brought back! Looks like he knows just what you like!!

    Well friend will try to be a little better staying in touch now that I am home for a bit!!
