TIE THAT BINDS

My husband, Bob, has a large extended family on his mother's side that enjoys getting together for a cousin's reunion. A week ago, nine cousins came together along with Bob's 95-year old mother, her 80-year old brother, and an assortment of inlaws, outlaws, kids and grandkids. Good food and lots of reminiscing and laughs completed the get-together.

The day spent with his family reminded me of this quilt that I made several years ago and had forgotten about. It has six generations of genealogical information hand-inked on the blocks. I remember that it took me much longer to research the information than it did to make the quilt.

I admire anyone that has the patience and enjoys working on genealogy. I'm afraid this quilt will have to be my contribution to our family's recorded history.

Do you enjoy studying your family history?

I really enjoy geneology, especially the life histories! This quilt is so unique. Is it in any of your books that can still be purchased? I love the pattern and the whole idea of it!

Oh, what fun reunions can be. Nearly all of my people left live far away in East Texas, so we seldom get together. All of my hubby's family is gone now. So sad.
I love your pretty quilt.
One of the East Texas cousins is heavy into searching the family history so he keeps me informed. He is putting it all on disk so we can have it on our computers. Pretty neat....

Oh, Dear Sally, what a wonderful idea about your quilt! It's lovely and all the notes written down will be so helpful to generations to come. My mother quilts, or she did, she says she's made her last quilt top! LOL She was 86 on Father's Day.

Yes, I enjoy research our family history! Although, since I've taken up blogging, I don't seem to have the time to do any more search.

Glad I could bring you a sweet memory!!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

Bob's mother looks so prim and proper with her hands crossed just so. How special she must have felt!

Are you kidding me? I love that quilt...you did all the work on it. Oh, my goodness...I love that. Yes, I love geneology, mostly on my mom's side. Although, both my maternal grandparents are from Russia, long before the war and all the records are burned. But I do find bits and pieces now and then. I am telling you I would just cherish a quilt like that! I do have a book with recent family info, and let me tell you...it would be a first to grab if I had to leave in a hurry!
