DA GAMA TEXTILES AND BROWN TRANSFERWARE

Hidden in my large stash of fabrics, I recently rediscovered 12 small pieces of Da Gama Textile fabric from South Africa that I purchased about 15 years ago.  Upon seeing them again, I decided I had to make a table runner to go with my collection of brown transferware.  Since the fabrics were designed in England for Da Gama, they just seemed to go together.  My 19th-century dishes are all from English potteries.

Can a person have too many platters?  I don't think so!!

Not anything momentous going on at the Salmagundi household this month ---- just playing around with dishes and fabric!

For more about the quilting process of this runner, check out my quilting blog (click here).

P.S.: We now have a wildfire going to the west of us in the mountains -- hope and pray that it is contained soon.  Lots of smoke and ash in the air here in town, so those of us who lean towards asthma and allergies are staying indoors.
Elsewhere, hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Mercy, do hope the wild fires will soon be out for your sake as well as others. Loved the quilted mat.

First, thank you for not giving up on me with the linky problems. I have figured out the problem was ‘me.’ With some great advice from a person who knows about linky I think I’ve got this now.

The quilted runner is so beautiful and you are right about it looking fabulous with the brown transfer ware. Nope, never too many platters. What is it about platters? I have many and still love them. Very pretty.
Happy Blue Monday.

Jeanne

This is why we keep things til right project comes along to use it. How fantastic you had that fabric for so long, did you feel you would use it someday? Just never know what impulse will hit you at right time. Fa
When we lived in KY came across much of it but never bought any, fact I regret now. Wasn't interested in it at that time but have learned an appreciation for it more lately. Your dishes and runner are beautiful together.
No don't think we can have too many platters. What kind do you collect? I seem to have acquired a fascination for very old fashioned white platters with pretty flowered edges. Guess my age craves looking at old fashioned, 40's - 50's style, maybe cause I remember many in relatives homes as a child, was born in 1940.
Enjoyed your post, happy week
Do you live close to CO fires? Hope they can contain them.

Hi Sally! Oh, course not, you can never have too many platters especially when they are as pretty as yours. Love your pretty quilted runner too! Oh, I don't know if I could make a tiny little quilt. Maybe I could. If I do, I'll make sure to show it to you! But you have to promise not to laugh! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
