to celebrate her one-year anniversary of Sunday Favorites. Sundays are a chance to repost a favorite of ours from the past. Please go by Chari's to wish her a happy anniversary and check out the other favorite posts. Today I chose an older post about the Eiffel Tower and other engineering marvels.
My husband, Bob, is retired from a 44-year career as a civil engineer. Consequently, when we travel, engineering marvels are always at the top of our "must see" list.
There are many engineering feats I have not witnessed such as the pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China.
But, I have seen the underside of the Golden Gate Bridge, and viewed the Royal Gorge Bridge of Colorado from a tram 1100 feet above the river.
I've been claustrophobic at the top of the St. Louis Arch, and have ridden 13 miles across the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island in Canada.
I've been in the bowels and seen the inner workings of the Tower Bridge in London, and traveled 180 miles an hour under the water of the English Channel through a tunnel.
BUT, in my opinion, the absolute best, best, best engineering marvel is the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
It combines the structure and strength of engineering and the beauty and form of art.
I know that there are professional photos that capture that beauty better than our amateur pictures, but these are ours and remind me that I was actually there!

I remember feeling a little queesy riding up the glass elevator on the Eiffel Tower...seeing more of the workings of that marvelous structure than I cared to see going that fast! And it was 10 pm on a summer evening, as bright as early afternoon. Thanks for the great photos.
Amazing! I bet you were entranced with the beauty and your husband was studying the inner workings. Sounds perfect for both of you to me.
Hi Sally...
Ohhh...what a fabulous post to share once again...we never, never can get enough of that magnificent structure called the Eiffel Tower! I loved seeing your photos, my friend! You talked about being claustrophobic at the top of the St. Louis arch...Sally, you should have seen me at the top of the Eiffel! I was paralysed and could not look out...it was just too high! Hehe! The photos of me at the very top...are me holding onto the center wall! Hehe! I can laugh now but it wasn't funny at the time! Anyway, I'm so happy to see you today for Sunday Favorites, Darlin'...what a treat! Thank you so much for coming to visit and leaving me such a sweet note! I appreciate all of your well wishes for Sunday Favorites "One Year" birthday celebration! It's been a momentous year for me!!! Thank you, sweet friend! Hey, you will get to see the Eiffel again...I'm so envious! Are the plans for Europe still a go?
Have a wonderful weekend and best wishes on my gift card giveaway!
Love ya,
Chari
PS..by the way, you have 3 chances coming your way. 1 for commenting, 1 for being a follower, and 1 for posting this Sunday! You were asking if we got snow...no, thank goodness! But we sure have had the rain! We've been needing the moisture so it's great!
This is a fabulous poat; makes me feel as if I were there!
How excited - it really is a beautiful structure. I get queasy when they show land ending and a canyon beyond on television. I can't even imagine going up that!
Oh my goodness.......what great pictures! I've never been....so it was wonderful to see!
Warm blessings,
Spencer
