BED SKIRT SECURITY

I've always called them dust ruffles, but I guess the manufacturers call them bed skirts - sounds better, I guess!  At any rate, they have always been a fixture in our household.  Always short on storage space, all that real estate under the bed could not go wasted --  thus, a dust ruffle to hide the clutter.

Since I've made scads of dust ruffles over the years I've developed my favorite way of making them.  I love a secure dust ruffle -- I don't want it to move around and need daily fussing!

So,  I use a fitted sheet that covers the box springs as a deck for the skirt.  Then, I just attach the skirt with hook and loop tape to the fitted sheet.  This allows the ruffle to be removed for laundry or to be changed out without disruption of the bed.
And, the fitted sheet holds everything securely.  I have a mechanical bed which does have a lot more movement involved.    So, I go one step further and use safety pins to secure the fitted sheet to the box springs.  These pins are the best.  They are curved for ease in pinning, and are quilt basting safety pins.
My dust ruffles always stay in place with the exact clearance I like.

Hi there, it was a short week due to the January crud that I was blessed with last weekend. Lots of kids that should stay home, don't. Now I'm on the mend, though.

I need to work on a few bed skirts here, but I want a smaller bed in my bedroom first. I really don't need a kind sized bed any more, so maybe after I find a new chair and get a lawn mower, I might think about a new bed. Oh, forgot the new sink I want, too. Saw a small farmhouse sink at IKEA I'd sure like. OK, so as I have a long wish list I most likely don't need to worry about a new bed skirt!♥♫

This is such a good idea, Sally! I hate the way traditional
bedskirts move about. This really makes laundering so much easier. :-)

well that ;looks easy....I never thought to attach the velcro to a fitted sheet....I couldn't figure out how to attach the velcro to the box spring so I just shirred the fabric and shoved it between the mattress and box spring....the mattress is so heavy that it actually keeps it in place...but I love your method....how did you attach the velcro to the sheet...did you sew it on...is that a stupid question?

When I saw that safety pin ( I hadn't started reading) I thought it was going to be a post about how you kept bending the safety pins trying to pin something! Never knew they had pins like this! I need to stick around you more!!

Are you planning on going to the quilt show this Spring?

I left my date book at Sams- won't get it back till we go back late next week but will get a date for us for February-it's almost here!!

bee blessed
