It has been almost a month since I've posted on this blog. Christmas and New Year's Day have past. The household is back to normal with all of the decorations packed away, and the glitter has been swept up ---- well most of it anyway! I still get a glimpse of a sparkle occasionally. So, I guess it isn't totally gone.
The house seemed bare and empty at first, but we are slowly settling in for what has turned out to be a cold and snowy winter after a long, glorious autumn.
I rearranged some of the brown transferware. Nothing spectacular, just enough for me to re-enjoy some of the old pieces that I've had hidden in the background.
January always seems to call for a new project.
I've been itching to make doll clothes, but, alas, my girls are all grown up now. Guess I needed an excuse, so I decided that this year for a donation project I would buy an 18" doll and dress it with a full wardrobe of clothes. Then in the Fall, I will donate it all to one of our local charities that has fundraisers with silent auctions. The doll is a knock-off of the famous 18" dolls. I purchased it from Target for 1/4 of the price of the famous doll, but I'm quite pleased with the quality. For now, I just have her hair pulled back in a ponytail, which is convenient for trying on clothes. I'll style it up when the time comes!
So with an excuse in place, I've been sewing up a storm. Here is one of the
outfits ----
A real leather jacket with black knit trim; a linen crop top with a check skater skirt; black mesh leggings and fringe boots
Half the fun is finding the fabrics. I purchased a leather skirt at Goodwill to make the jacket; the check fabric came from my quilting stash, and the mesh fabric was a pair of athletic shorts on the $1 table at Wal-mart.
I've made several different outfits, with ideas for more. I keep checking with my fashionista granddaughter to make sure I'm staying on the trendy track.
More to come.
Enjoying the cold and snow with the opportunity to stay inside and sew.

You are going to have so much fun! And what a wonderful prize this will make. I'm all admiration. Not only are the dolls expensive, but the clothes!!! LOvely start!
Hi Sally! I saw your post on Face Book and was delighted to see it again on your blog. You know I love your brown and white transferware and that's a pretty setting. Now about the doll - yay! My granddaughter has the same Target doll with blonde hair and loved it so and that is why I got her the American Girl Doll. You sound like me, I adore making doll clothes and made so many for her dolls that my daughter asked me not to make any more because she didn't know where to put them! :) Have you looked at the American Girl Doll site online and see how much their dollclothes cost? It's almost a sin! This is a wonderful thing you're doing and I know some little girl will love her doll and clothes.
You are the sweetie,
Shelia ;)
What a terrific idea! Some little girl is going to be thrilled! And some organization is also going to really benefit from this gift! You have such talent...and it is wonderful that you are sharing your gift in this way! Hope you will post more pics as you complete her wardrobe! Enjoy your day! ;)
Sally, some little girl is going to be so lucky to have these precious clothes. You always go the extra mile with everything you do. Our little grand, Saydee has an 18" doll and her other grandmother made her a lot of cute clothes for it for Christmas. She put them in a sweet trunk that had birds on it. I baby sat Saydee one night last week and she brought them. She asked if I liked her trunk. I said, "I love it!" She smiled and said, "I knew you would because it has birds on it". So sweet! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Hi Sally! Yes, we do not have to grow up, do we? If we could get together we would have a ball! Hope your week is off to a good start.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
