VINTAGE THINGIES THURSDAY

Thanks to Suzanne of Colorado Lady for hosting Vintage Thingies Thursday once again. Be sure to stop by her blog for a list of those participating in this fun event.

I now realize that there is a theme to this week's event; but since I have a hard time following rules I am doing something different. It is Mother's Day week, so I decided to show you instead a bank that belongs to my husband, Bob. When his mother found out she was pregnant with him 71 years ago, she and his Dad started saving money in this bank to pay the doctor bill for when he was born.

The little metal airplane is a replica of the one Charles Lindberg made his solo flight in across the Atlantic ocean in 1927, just 11 years before Bob was born. On the top, it says, "Spirit of Saving" after the name of the plane, "Spirit of St. Louis".

It is in good condition except for the rubber on the wheels, which has hardened and is disintegrating.

Thanks for stopping by; now, please go by Suzanne's to check out all of the great vintage items.

Sally

Oh how lovely!!! I have always LOVED the little metal toys.

My grandparents used to have a little metal palm tree toy which had a monkey that would climb to the top. My cousin Al got it and restored it. I HOPE he still treasures it.

Good morning Sally, I am getting an early start this morning. I let the day get away from me and my visiting suffers.

I love your story about your hubby and the airplane. Hie mom was a wise woman. The airplane bank is a real treasure.

Good Mornin' my friend...

What a treasure!!! I love this little plane bank and the story that goes with it! It really does have great details...what a keepsake! As you know, we've been going through Russell's Dad's place...we came across a couple of toys that he had when he was just a boy...a metal horse and wagon set and an old metal tractor that you wind up! They just don't make toys like that anymore!

Thank you for coming by and taking a peek at my Mother's Day tablescape and for all of your sweet comments!!! I only get to see my mama and girls about once a year...I get pretty homesick for all of them! Texas is just soooo far away! They live in Corpus Christi, it's about 1200 mls. away! We are planning a trip down next month though..I'm so excited!!! Well my friend, sending my best wishes to you for a Happy Mother's Day! Are your children coming for the weekend?

Love ya,
Chari
