A BIT OF CABIN STYLE

I've always wanted a log cabin in the mountains, but that isn't going to happen.  We are happily settled in a cottage on the edge of a town with a view of the mountains.  I still get the urge for a little touch of that log cabin of my dreams, however.
We've had this twig table for a few years, but it has always resided on our screened-in porch.  I decided to switch things around and use it for a coffee table in the living room this winter.
With a few pine cones, it is a reminder of the mountain log cabin of my youth.  I was raised on the plains of southeast Colorado where it gets quite hot in the summer.  Before air conditioning was common, people who were able went to the mountains for a couple of weeks in the summer to cool off.  I often accompanied my Grandmother on her yearly trip in August to Cuchera, Colorado.  What fond memories I have of those trips to that log cabin.
There is always a bright side -- if I lived in a log cabin in the mountains, there would be snow on the ground by now; and I wouldn't be able to enjoy the flowers that are still blooming in our lower-elevation garden!

I love a log cabin in the mountains, too. It is wonderful to see a bit of that in your house-with the twig table. What a nice touch for winter. xo Diana

I have always wanted a log cabin too! I have two coffee table books that I look at often, one is a cottage style book and the other is about log cabins! There is just something so warm and inviting about the wood and the way nature is brought inside! :)

We've actually tinkered around with the idea of buying a cabin. Not sure if I would want to maintain two places at my age. lol! But sure do love being in the mountains! Love your vignette Sally. the table is fabulous and I love that deer! Or is it an elk? And the cones and feathers, love that too!! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann

I so get this. In theory I would love a mountain cabin, but wouldn't want to live there all the time. But I would always be thinking about it. I just don't know how homebody people manage two places. Love your table! (I always think of my fellow transferware buddies when I post a new piece!)

Love your coffee table and the touch of log cabin!GMLA. I have been yearning for a touch more rustic lately. Summer before this one just passed we built a patio house and ended up making 'storm windows' for the screens out of heavy vinyl. Last year I used it for storage but this year it's going to be my Rustic Winter Retreat.
