WHAT I LEARNED ON MY SPRING BREAK!

1.  PROM
It has been 23 years since my kids went to their high school proms, and 57 years since Bob and I went to prom.  Things have changed.
First - comfort:  The trend (locally anyway) is for the girls to ditch the sparkly high heels and just go with flip flops or skater shoes.  The salesman that sold my granddaughter her white (to match the dress) Vans, said that more and more are buying comfort shoes for the prom.  Maybe those teenagers are smarter than we give them credit!
Second - Wrist corsages have been popular for awhile, but now boutonnieres come with a magnetic strip on the back.  Navigating a long, sharp corsage pin without drawing blood is a lost art.  Who knew?
Third - The Pre-prom Photo Shoot.  In the past, a couple of fuzzy, Polaroids in front of the fireplace was good enough.  Now, they have full-blown photo shoots.  I was a secondary, tag-along picture taker; but I managed to get a couple of good shots of our beautiful granddaughter and her cute, dimple-endowed boyfriend.
If you want a fun people-watching experience, on prom night at about 4:00 or 5:00 pm go to your local attraction (historic building, park, river, etc.) and you will see lots of pretty dresses, beautiful girls and cute boys having fun getting their pictures taken!
On the same evening, our son, the high school teacher, was chaperoning the prom at his school.  He says that a successful prom is one where no one fails the breathalizer test at the entrance.  It was a good prom year!

2.  EASTER
Teenagers still get a kick out of an Easter Egg Hunt, especially if it involves chocolate, money and gift cards!

3.  OLD AGE AND RETIREMENT
Last week it took me the whole week to iron 4 pillowcases, 5 shirts and a blouse.  At my age, I've learned that I'm easily distracted, lack motivation, and my knees hurt.  In my heyday, I could iron 5 shirts in 30 minutes.  Oh, well!!

4.  COSTS ARE RISING
Sonic is now charging me $.40 extra to add a quarter of a lime to my Diet Coke.  Guess I'll need to forgo that luxury, so I can afford to buy meat at the new higher prices.

5.  SPRING TIME IN THE ROCKIES
The only predictable thing about Spring in Colorado is its unpredictability.  Guess I've always known about the weather, but it catches me unaware every Spring.  The past couple of weeks, we have had snow, rain, cold, heat, and wind -- sometimes all on the same day!
It's hard to tell the snow from the blossoms on our pear tree.

And, that is what I have learned in my short absence from blogland.

I'm spreading my new knowledge on the following:
Smiling Sally for Blue Monday
Our Home Away from Home for Tuesdays at our Home
A Stroll Thru Life for Inspire Me Tuesday
A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday
Green Willow Pond for What We Accomplished Wednesday
Have a Daily Cup for Share Your Cup Thursday
Nancherrow for Fridays Unfolded

I have never really enjoyed ironing, and will avoid as much as possible. Some things just have to be ironed. Looks like a fun prom!

Hello Sally,

I'll take blue shirts any day! I'm so glad you're playing today. Your granddaughter is gorgeous in her white gown. I had no idea that kids were so smart to leave those high heels in the store! Thanks for sharing.

Have a Happy Blue Monday!

Lovely prom photos, I'm glad the young people are smart enough to ditch the heels. My kids had photo shoots at the prom beforehand. I also avoid ironing as much as possible.

Hi Sally! Your granddaughter and her date are a sweet looking couple. She is just beautiful! Now I didn't know that about the comfy shoes but it makes sense to me! :) I remember the day of spray starching and ironing my hubby's shirts. Finally he woke up and started taking them to the cleaners! :)
Thanks for popping in to see my little family.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Your granddaughter is beautiful! Things sure have changed haven't they. I iron as little as I can get away with. The dryer and a damp towel are my ironing board lol! Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great week!

Blessings,
Deborah

Sally, I love that we never stop learning! I just learned that about the magnetic boutonnieres at my nephews wedding. Who knew? Didn't know that about the shoes. My oldest grand daughter is 16 and will just start high school next year. Wonder if they do photo shoots here? Your granddaughter is beautiful and they are a cute couple! Thanks for sharing with SYC. Oh yes, I've noticed that about the limes in the gas station drinks also. They charge extra if you put in more than one.
hugs,
Jann

Loved your fun post Sally! My you really learned a lot on your spring break!!

My how your grand-daughter is growing up into such a pretty young lady!

It's been so busy here- yesterday we helped our friends sheer their 75 alpacas- the last time we helped we did it in a barn, this year out in the corrals . I am burned to a crisp as I didn't prepare for being outside all day!

Happy Mother's Day- can you believe it is snowing today!???

Miss chatting- would love to see you sometime if life could just slow down a tad~

bee blessed

WEll, It sounds like your Spring Break was a very educational one. I will agree here in Indianapolis area that kids celebrate prom in similar fashion. Since I redo a lot of prom dresses, I hear similar stories. However, here it is still somewhat common for girls to buy very high heel shoes and they want their dress to touch the floor when they have their shoes on. But they say,
"When we get to prom we just kick off our shoes and carry our dresses. Everyone does it!"
And they eat where ever...Taco Bell, Steak and Shake, any where...all dressed up, then go to the prom afterwards. Of course, you can't forget the salon styled up hair do and the acrylic nails and airbrush make up and the limo ride.
Your granddaughter is beautiful and her boyfriend quite cute! Have a wonderful day dear Sally.
